Coming from a bride who put it off until the last minute, I would say that there’s no such thing as too early, as long as you’re sure that you won’t be purchasing any of the items yourself in the meantime.  If you think that you’ll be wanting to make a lot of purchases between your engagement and your wedding, you might want to hold of a little bit – but be sure to do it at least a couple of weeks before any invitations for showers go out.

I’m not quoting any rules – just what I’ve discovered in my own experience.  I may be wrong.

If you are having an engagement party, I would register before the invites go out for that. Otherwise I would register a month or two before the invitations go out.

We did it pretty early on so if at any time people wanted to get gifts they could check it out. But I also like to get things done as soon as possible so I can check it off the to do list. It was also a fun/exciting thing to do with Fiance (He loved being in charge of the scanner!)

Fiance and I are under the 8 month mark now. We’re planning to do it between now and the 6 month mark — that way folks that want to take advantage of after-thanksgiving and pre-christmas sales to buy stuff off our registries can.

@tessabella76 – Thanks! Fiance and I try to make things easier and occasionally when we rub our brain cells together we can come up with a decent idea or two. 😀 (Plus, we figured it might help us get a few of our bigger ticket items if people can get them on sale instead of at full price!!)

Def at least a couple weeks before the engagement party or shower (whichever one is first). People won’t even look at your registry until probably the day before they have to buy a gift for such an event, but it’s good to get it out of the way. My sister waited too long and got about 30 picture frames at her engagement party.

Register whenever you’d like… but keep in mind that as seasons go on some items will be discontinued or sold out. You may want to keep an eye on it once a month so all items are in stock!

I’d start start your registry the sooner the better.  Hooray for the internet! Most registries can be updated online, so once you’ve got a base registry, you can add and delete as you think of things without a one-day last minute registry gun marathon where you might resent your gifts or register for things you dont want.

Regardless of when you register, just check every month or so to make sure you replace any items that have become unavailable.  You may need to look at your registry from the guest view to see this– I didn’t realize that, and the sheets we registered for became unavailable, but I didn’t put any new ones on there.  Sooooo looks like we’re starting our marriage on FI’s nasty old sheets since he has the bigger mattress!
