I am getting married in may of next year, and I just recently registered. I haven’t made it public yet, but its one less thing to worry about. I think the appropriate time would be 7-9 months before you’r wedding. Hope this helps 🙂

i dont think there is an inappropriate time to register. If you register over nine months out i would suggest keeping an eye on seasonal items that may either be discontinued or updated/changed to a newer stock number

I registered in January I think for a June wedding. I wanted to make sure what I got was in stock and being carried! I STILL had to go back and update it occassionally

I just registered last week and looked at the registry today online to edit some things… and low and behold, some items are *already* no longer available. (not sure why… ?)

We wanted to register about 5 months out. I had to put my registry excitement on hold once I realized how quickly I change my mind on things. I would recommend waiting til about 5-6 months before your day so that you have less of a chance of changing your minds as the styles change in the stores.

Have fun!

I actually had requests to start registering almost 11 months before the wedding – so we went out and did it then, and just got it all over with. We don’t have them listed anywhere right now, but if people ask (for engagement parties, etc) then people have somewhere to look. I happen to be very decisive, and I knew the china I wanted long before we even were engaged 🙂 So I guess it would also depend on your personality!

You don’t want to register too far out from your wedding, because you don’t want them to stop producing the things you register for! Some things are only produced for 1 season. You could end up with half sets of things that will never be made again!

I registered very early in the hopes that friends and family will pull from it for other upcoming gift-giving occasions because we’re starting totally from scratch–we need EVERYTHING. But fiftyfootbride (cutest name, by the way) has a good point about stores stopping production of some things, so I update online often.
