I wish I had some tips for you. Fiance and I are in the same boat. We have EVERYTHING we need for our apartment and will not be looking for a house until about a year after the wedding. <sigh> I wish it was appropriate to just ask for money. That is what we REALLY need!

I would wait to send out registry information.  Let your bridal shower hostess include it in their invitations which is the traditional way to do it.  We are in the same boat.  Surprisingly there is still tons of stuff you can register for and need that has nothing to do with colors.  Towels and bedding will always go on sale but for now you can get new pots, small appliances, daily China, fine China, silverware, etc.  We are sticking with stainless for almost everything. And when it comes to something like China simply pick a pattern that you like and it will all come together in your home.  GL!

We will be registering way before we are able to buy a home. We’ve lived together for a few years now so we are registering for the “upgrades”.  We basically have decided that we will pick out nice white plates & serveware because you can always add color with chargers and placemats. For towels I think we will go with a neutral that is also our favorite color (grey). Then it won’t matter what color our bathroom is painted.

Basically we just won’t register for pictures, rugs, curtains, or anything that would need to match our house.

You can register for kitchen stuff and basics (e.g. down comforters) without knowing what your future home will look like.

@MissNumbers: I agree!

There are a ton of things that are neutral that you can register for – you can even choose a china pattern without knowing what your house will look like. Think in terms of getting really good pots and pans, a great knife set, espresso maker, etc. and neutral towels, sheets, down comforters, etc. Those things that you won’t want to spend the big bucks on when you enter into a new mortgage.
