I’m a new “Bee” here, coming from the Knot! I got sick of those boards a long time ago, I felt like it was so snarky and witchy. But anyway..short story, our wedding is July 15, we were engaged 7/25/09. After talking with my mom and aunt, they tentatively are planning my shower for the first weekend of April or around there, due to family obligations in April, May and June (and then July is the wedding!).
Question is..I’ve never been to a wedding before. Well, that’s not true – I’ve been to two – but very individual styled weddings. I don’t know what is really “okay” to put on a registry. I’ve seen loads of other people’s registries, as well as the “idea sheets” the stores give you, but I’m so worried about what people will think when they look at it! Fiance keeps trying to put a Dyson on (I choked when I saw the $599 price tag) and insisting on every appliance being kitchen aid. I feel like I can’t ask guests to spend that, or make it look as though I expect them to – I’m content with a $45 Black and Decker blender.
Anyone in the same boat? Or words of reassurance? We have approx. 170 guests.

put absolutely whatever you want on your registry. the only important thing is to make sure you have a range of prices for all of your guests. you never know, maybe a few of your friends would go in together to buy the dyson. plus, most stores give completion discounts, so maybe you could take the gift cards you get and buy it yourself!

We put items of all price ranges including the Dyson for $548. We figured, might as well if people wanted to go in together on a big item. But don’t feel bad. Registering is something fun to do with your Fiance. Plus you can update and delete items online once your registry is established. People will buy for you what they can afford, so offer many different prices.

You can register for something in every price range. Our parents bought us the bigger items and honestly we registered for a $2k bed we knew no one would buy so that we could get the 20% discount on it after the wedding since where we registerd offers an after your event discount on your registry items.
