Fiance and I registered at Bed, Bath and Beyond and Macy’s. Where we live (and other places where 40% of the guest list lives) and the place to where we’re moving all have a Macy’s location right in town. However, in my hometown, we don’t–and it’s an hour and a half to the nearest one.
Of course BB&B is all over, so we have more than enough of those, plus on our wedding website we have the registry links to both, and we compensated by not having many things on our Macy’s website. We went with macy’s because of this Martha Stewart china, so that and some dish towels are the only real things on there, and because of the Martha Stewart stuff it’s not something we could easily convert to BB&B. And, the real point I guess I should make is that 90% of our guests are very computer literate.
So… do you think it’s ok that we registered at a store to which half our guest list is not local? We thought hard about this, but I want to know what you would think as a guest. Should we add a third store, like Target or something?

I think it’s fine the way it is. I have never bought a gift at a store off of a registry. It’s so easy to do it online these days and I feel like that’s the majority of what people will do. I think with the internet, people are buying (and bringing) gifts in person way less…

I think you are fine. I registered at Crate and Barrel, but there are no C&B’s in NV. Only about 5% of the guests are coming from NV. The rest are all from states that have the store. I figure a lot of people will just buy stuff online in order to take advantage of the store’s shipping. Even our grandparents are tech savy.

To be honest, unless it was for a shower, I usually buy my gifts online so I don’t think it matters whether some of your guests are located near a Macy’s!

Most guests who purchased from our registry ordered online, even though both stores were local to all guests. You’re definitely fine!

Everyone is local to at least one store, right? In that case, you’re totally fine. So far, we’re only doing BB&B, which means that about 1/3 of our guests won’t have a store locally. However, the only way around that is to register at WalMart (they live in the middle of nowhere), and I’m not sure I want to do that.
