I always shop off the registry. I would expect a lot of people will be doing their shopping this week, that’s when items starting flying off my registry.

I think people generally do buy off the registry. At my shower, I’d say 90% of the things came off the registry. I think there was only one aunt who didn’t buy anything off the registry, and DH’s mom didn’t buy anything off the registry either. Well, she did buy one thing (I think it was coincidence) but didn’t have it marked as bought, so we got a duplicate and had to exchange.

I always buy off the registry because I don’t know what they have, don’t like, etc. It’s the safest way.

I always shop off the registry for at least part of the gift, and I always do it excessively early so I can get there first.

That said, most people wait the week of to buy gifts.

I always shop off the registry.  It’s so much easier and you know you are getting the couple something they can use.

MrsRevolutionize:  I find that people seem to wait until the last minute to buy something for a shower…… I always buy off the registry and usually do it right away so that I have lots of options and the ability to buy something within my price range.  I received a few gifts that were not on my registry and to be honest, while I appreciated the thought, I really did not like any of these gifts.  I ended up returning the items if a gift receipt was provided.

MrsRevolutionize:  I thought the same thing leading up to my shower but then I ended up getting a lot of items from my registry. It turned out that many people just didn’t get it marked as purchased. I would say about 50% of the gifts were from my registry, the rest was lingerie lol.

I always buy shower gifts off the registry.

Keep in my mind, most people don’t buy their gifts until the week of, and a lot of times, the day of the shower.

MrsRevolutionize:  Yup! I’m in the group that shops early to ensure optimum selection capabilities. I always purchse off the registry- makes my life easy! Everything I got at my shower was from my registry except for some handmade things.

MrsRevolutionize:  well I had a registry set up for the wedding/possible shower but due to the fact that most of my family and my Bridesmaid or Best Man were from Out of Town I ended up not getting a shower, and for the wedding (150 ppl) only one person bought something off it…and they didnt even “register it” like… when you look at your registry it shows whats bought, they must have just went up to the counter and paid for it not telling them it was from a registry because nothing else was bought so they thought it was safe lol….

In saying that only…..4-5 people bought us physical gifts… the rest was money in cards.

MrsRevolutionize:  I buy off of the registry unless I have a plan to make something for them. For the very special, I will knit a blanket or something.

It depends. I’m not opposed to shopping from the registry, but I’ve often gifted something not on the registry. Often depends on how well I know the couple. Just last weekend we were shopping for my brother-in-law’s shower and they had a luggage set on the registry, but it was out of stock. So we called them and they picked that set because it was available at their store, but would be fine with getting a different set. So we shopped around and got them an off registry set. We discussed getting them a set that was pretty much exactly like the out of stock set, but decided to upgrade them a bit (4 wheels instead of 2) because we travel a lot and we thought they’d like it once they tried it.

I always buy off the registry, unless it is someone I know very very well. I figure that the stuff a couple registers for is stuff they actually want and/or need.
