I am doing my thank you cards now and I wanted to share some thoughts I had on registries.
I registered at Amazon.com and Surlatable.com.
Amazon – this is a great place to register in my opinion because they sell so many different things. Also for your guests, so long as they spend more than $25 dollars shipping is free. Amazon has a good thank you card tool that gives you your guest’s address so you dont have to go looking for it. My computer that had all the invitation addresses on it crashed so this tool has made it very easy for me.
Sur La Table – At this point I am kind of regretting registering here. I am a more established *cough* older bride so I already had practically everything a kitchen needs, the kitchen items I requested are purely supplemental/upgrades to what I owned. I received some beautiful registry items from Sur La Table but a bunch of people gave me gift cards too and now I have $600 worth of gift cards at this store!! In retrospect I would have preferred to have this amount of credit at a more versatile store such as Macy’s or Bloomingdales. Sur La Table sells kitchen stuff only so it is going to be tougher to spend all that money esp since I live in a small apartment. Lastly Sur La Table does not have the thank you tool and so I have to search for each persons address when I send them a thank you not. First world problems I know but still.
1) You want a registry that has a good thank you card tool that give you the guests address right there with pics of what they bought you. Way easier.
2) Think twice about registering at a highly specialized store as you may end up with an overage of gift cards that will be harder to spend. If I had done my registry at a department store I could go there right now and buy all sorts of different things I want, including clothes and beauty items, but instead I am limited to kitchen oriented shopping sprees.
