jdog012 :  You’re having a small ceremony, but large reception? Is this customary in your region?

This would be very off-putting in my area, as the whole reason you’re invited to a wedding is to witness two people be joined in matrimony and then celebrate with them. however, perhaps this is the norm for your area.

I would say to have a medium sized registry with varying priced items. You will get gifts that you didn’t egister for and some people will give you checks. I wouldn’t woorry too much about it.

We had the same thing and just registered as a normal couple would. We didn’t need a lot so our registry was super small and we spread the word that we’d prefer no gifts since we don’t live in our hometown where we got married and had no room to take anything back (It took us almost a year to get my bridal shower gifts transported back to where we live as everyone would take something every time they came out). We mostly got money and cards which likely would have been given to us if we didn’t have a reception.

MrsSapphire :  We might go this route or the opposite route depending on venue availability (larger ceremony, smaller reception), haven’t decided yet. But I’m curious now how gifts will work, so following this thread! Registries are not that common in my family so I assume a lot of the gifts will be checks, cash and gift cards.

jdog012 :  I agree with

MrsSapphire : . I’d find it off putting if I were invited to a large reception and not ceremony. Unless it was immediate family only (siblings and parents) that were invited to the ceremony.
