I feel your pain. We literally went through the same thing of receiving poor engagement shoot photos and we ended up letting go of our photographer (a whopping three months before the wedding!) and found a new, better one. At least you are out $500. We were out $2700. Best of luck to finding a new, better photographer!

Those B&W ones by your Bridesmaid or Best Man are beautiful!

@lilbluebird:  WOW.  You must have really been unhappy with the engagement photos.  But I’m sure it was worth it!  Nothing is more precious than your wedding pictures.

I hate ours… but I’m hoping our photog will be better for the wedding… mostly candids instead of posed.  I’d be out not quite double what you were if I switched now, haha.

@LuckyInMyLife:  why don’t you tell your mom what happend to your friend instead of hiring one behind her back?  That could casue trouble.  Surley your mom wouldn’t want to hire a photog whoes batteried died?

@seAprilbride:  OUCH! Yes, DH was NOT happy we lost our deposit but everyone we showed the pictures too didn’t think that the photos remotely matched up to the quality and style as displayed in the blog/FB/website. I work in creative so I have colleagues that are experienced in photo editing and taking, so it’s not like we were uninformed and had overly high expectations. When we contacted our photographer, they refused to make any edits (regardless of how minor it was) and refused to reshoot. Essentially, they took the stance that they were perfect and consistent with their portfolio so that’s that. With that attitude, we were seriously concerned about our wedding day and we made the tough decision to let them go after we found another photographer who was amazing and award-winning and was originally supposed to be on vacation but changed his plans at the last minute. This is why I encourage every bride to be to do an engagement session, bridal session, boudoir session, anything!

sorry about losing your deposit 🙁   I had photographer regrets before too… About 2 weeks before our engagement shoot (which is also when we were going ot pay our deposit).  I wrote about my uncertainty on weddingbee and put her website info and asked people for opinions, if it was just indecisiveness about our first big wedding purchase, or not….

Someone sent her the link to my post, and she sent me a scathing email about how good her work is and she would refuse to work with me because I said I was uncertain if I was in love with her work…

So maybe mention your photographer and they’ll solve the problem for you?  hahaha just kidding…

But You have to decide I guess what’s more important to you…the $500, or the photos that you’ll keep forever after.  $500 is a lot of money and not something to be laughed off, especially on a budget (we’re on a tight budget too), but I mean, it’s your wedding.  Do what is ultimately going to make you happy.

ps.  the two photos from your shoot, were those the two best? or two of your least faves?
