Pretty dress and great price. I have definitely seen on wedding blogs dresses that were definitely not traditional Bridesmaid or Best Man dresses. I wanted to do it myself but I have a Bridesmaid or Best Man that is plus sized and most of the dresses I saw only went up to (usually) size 16. I actually just saw a wedding today on style me pretty where the Bridesmaid or Best Man dresses were definitely not traditional Bridesmaid or Best Man dresses.

As long as your girls don’t have a lot of trouble fitting into standard sizes I don’t see a problem with it and it makes a lot of sense for exactly the reasons you listed.  I think the dress you linked is pretty too!

@aggie2010:  That dress is super cute! I love that they offer a lot of colors and it is definitely something your girls could wear again. The price point is amazing too 🙂

I think it is a great idea. The price is right. If they have the color you are looking for- go for it!  It is a cute dress for sure. Your BMs will appreciate the price too.

I picked up my Bridesmaid or Best Man dresses from the Banana Republic clearance rack for $17 each. I bought one that was the right size and I bought one a size too big (what they had available) and my Bridesmaid or Best Man had it altered. It worked out great. I don’t have my pictures back yet, but I would definitely recommend it.

The dress in your link is very nice and they could wear it again too. I say go for it.

I think it’s a great idea! My cousin got our bridesmaid dresses from Coldwater Creek and then we just had to have them altered a bit.

I did it for my Sept 2013 wedding!  This dress is from Express…originally 79, on sale for 59 and then an additional 15 off 🙂

We are changing out the sashes because I don’t like this one, but it was a great find!

I think it’s fine to order from a department store! Nordstrom has amazing customer service, a great return policy, and lots of cute dresses! I think the dress is cute, just keep in mind that it’s a juniors dress, so if you have bigger, or more curvy girls, it may not fit as nicely.

I actually have that dress, and I got it from the rack!  I think it was only $29 there.  I love that brand Lush in Bridal Party.  Super cute, but sizing is sort of limited so that might be an issue if they won’t all look good in junior sizing.

FWIW my BM’s all wore off the rack dresses and found them at Modcloth, H&M, Karmaloop, etc…they looked great!

I will be going down this route. Definitely not getting Bridesmaid or Best Man dresses made at a bridal store. I think a department store dress is often better quality at a better price.

Yes, this can totally work!

When my friend was planning her wedding, she was working at Macy’s. She happened to see 3 dresses she liked on clearance and they were the eggplant color she wanted, so she bought them. With her discount, I think it was less than $30 a piece.

I think only 1 of the dresses needed altered and mine actually fit like a glove!

Here are some pictures… not the greatest, but you get the idea.

If you can find a dress in a department store that fits everyone, I say go for it!
