What are you doing for your rehearsal dinner? Also, who are you inviting/including? I am originally from the east coast (wedding is in Cincinnati) so a good amount of our guests will be from out of town. My mother thinks we are supposed to invite out of towners to the rehearsal dinner (“Every wedding she has been to has included out of town guests”)…however, I feel like that would just be way too many people. Since my parent’s are taking care of all of the costs of the wedding, my fiance’s parents will be hosting the rehearsal dinner. Although they said they are willing to do whatever we want for the rehearsal dinner I just think that would be so unfair to expect them to host such a large dinner. That being said, how do you then go about deciding who to include for the dinner? I would also love to hear where people are having their rehearsal dinner. Restaurant? Someone’s house? etc. Thanks!

@MrsDeLovely: Well we’re on a budget (I only have a few hundred dollars and need to feed 40-50 people), but since most of our guests are from out of town (hence the high number) we decided to rent out a room in our room block and have our friends cook up some Carolina BBQ. and we’re purchasing beers and sodas. That way no one needs to drive or get dressed up, and when they’re tired, they can just walk back into their room. I have to add, we’re not having a rehearsal, just a casual dinner for everyone invited as a courtesy.

We’re only inviting bridal party and their spouse or gf/bf, grandparents, and my nephew (ring boy). We have about 50 out of towners so there’s no way we’d have them all at the rehearsal dinner. We’re having the rehearsal dinner at a Mexican restaurant in the hotel that the out of towners are staying at, that way after the rehearsal dinner we can meet up with the rest of our guests! My inlaws are renting out a a room at the restaurant and doing a fixed menu which includes appetizers, 3 choices of entrees, and a dessert.

Our rehearsal dinner is going to include all immediate family, and anyone directly involved with the wedding. We are also including anyone who is actually STAYING with us in the two houses we are renting, as it seems cheap and mean to exclude them.
We are doing a backyard lobster bake-clam bake- cookout at my FI’s clan’s rental house. I think the groomsmen (his brothers) are cooking, and we are doing lobster, clams, mussels, steaks, hamburgers, hot dogs, etc. We are going to get potato salad, sides, etc at Wegmans so there is less cooking to do. This way we keep it casual and family, and there is more time to socialize and get to know each other. Looking forward to it! (and the lobster!!!!)
