I’m looking for a private/semi-private room somewhere near the Museum of Science in Boston where we can feed 40-50 folks, show a dvd of baby pictures and otherwise have a fun time, but pay less than what we’re paying for the wedding! Any ideas?
I was thinking North End, family style pasta and wine, but have not found a place with packages less than $50 pp (Fiore, Maggiannos). I thought about Chinatown, but am scared of picking the wrong place, since I don’t know much about that area.
Ideas appreciated! Double appreciated if we can do karaoke somewhere nearby!

Does it have to be a sitdown dinner? Try Tommy Doyle’s Pub in Kendall Sq. It’s close to the Science Museum and there is a karaoke bar on Cambridge street not too far. You would have to take cabs, but the fares wouldn’t be more than a few $’s.

- Wedding: June 2010 - The Narragansett Towers
A good friend hosted one at the backroom of the bar The Burren, in Davis Sq. It was really nice! We had the whole room to ourselves and a lovely menu. The bride and groom did a slideshow. It was laid back but still nicely done.

I had my rehearsal lunch (since it’s cheaper than dinner) at Union Oyster House. I don’t exactly remember how much it cost per person, but I believe it was less than $50pp. We had a private room, the waitstaff were great, and the food was yummy.
Also, if you’re looking for a good Chinese restaurant in Chinatown, check out Hei La Moon (88 Beach Street). I had my wedding reception on the whole main floor of this restaurant. Potentially this can be semi-private since they have an upstairs and downstairs. They can probably give you an area in the restaurant where it won’t be as crowded.
