The rehearsal dinner is normally for the bridal party, spouses/SO of bridal party, immediate family, and out of town guests who came in early for your wedding. You can ask them if they would like to join you for dinner, but depending on how close you are with them it might come off as strange…

AnneOnymous:  We extended invites to our rehearsal dinner to one couple + one wife who couldnt attend the wedding due to them having tiny babies! They both came – one was the wife of a groomsman and one was a coworker of my husbands. We had a very casual, laidback BBQ so it was fun for them to come and bring their little babies (we had a kids free wedding).

I attended a cousin’s rehearsal dinner though I couldn’t attend the wedding the next day.  I think it depends how close you are and the style of the rehearsal dinner.  All of the family was invited to the rehearsal dinner for my cousin so it didn’t feel strange to me to be invited or attend even though I couldn’t atten the wedding.

AnneOnymous:  I think it would be a nice gesture- unnecessary but nice! Especially if its close family. If you don’t mind paying for them why not?

I have never heard of that, so not sure on what is right or wrong. I guess if they can’t make it – that is a nice gesture to get them involved in something you or your family is hosting.

We are planning to invite the bridal party, parents, and then relatives and friends who will be in town (some who even live here).

AnneOnymous:  I would do it and I think it’s a nice gesture that they would probably appreciate since they cannot make the wedding, but you’re certainly not required to do this.
