@yearns4god: The photographer and videographer should definitely be there if you want pictures/video from that evening, but you need to make sure to discuss that with them. Otherwise they are not entitled to be there if you only hired them to be at your wedding.

As a nice gesture, many couples also choose to invite any out-of-town guests. This is optional but a nice gesture if you can make it work. 🙂

We stuck to just bridal party, immediate family and one aunt and her husband since it was hosted at their home.  We only had 82 people at our wedding, so a big rehearsal dinner would have been almost everybody.

I think a lot of people invite the people that have come from out of town as a way to be a good host and entertain people who would otherwise be having to find their own restaurant/entertainment for dinner that evening.

We did not have our photographer/videographer there.  Do you mean to hire them for the evening, or invite them as guests?  I would imagine if you want this event documented you would want to hire them for the additional time.

We invited our immediate families, everyone in the bridal party and their spouses, my pastor and his wife, and all of our musicians and singers and their spouses. Our wedding was a Destination Wedding (an hour and a half to four hours away for most of our guests, much longer for others) for everyone — including DH and me — so we did not invite all of the out-of-towners to our rehearsal dinner.
