(Closed) Rehearsal Dinner Question

The issue here is expense.  If you hold the Rehearsal Dinner on a Thursday, the out of town guests will have to spring for another night at the hotel, which can be costly and beyond their budgets.   Even if they don’t say so it is a hardship/expense you don’t wish to put on them.   I suggest finding another venue for the Rehearsal Dinner that is available Friday night.

Can you do the rehearsal earlier than the wedding on Friday? It doesn’t really take that long as long as everybody pays attention. Ours took about a half hour. We then had the Rehearsal Dinner at a restaurant.

At one wedding we even had it all the Sunday before the Friday wedding so no one had to lose work the day before. Worked out great.

We were in the same situation. Is it possible to have the rehearsal Friday afternoon sometime, before the other wedding starts? Our venue gave us from 4-5:30 in the ceremony room and then we had our dinner elsewhere.

Can you have your rehearsal dinner somewhere else?

I have been to a Thursday Rehearsal and dinner for a Saturday wedding before. It worked out well – I was a part of the bridal party, so I did not mind flying out the extra day. It keeps the Rehearsal Dinner smaller (only wedding party and immediate family), and it was great to have the Friday before to relax. A good break before the day long festivies on Saturday.

@aheavel: If your guests were planning to arrive on Thursday, then thats fine.  But I wouldnt ask them to arrive a day early just for a rehersal. Its just an added expensive for them. What about having it on Friday afternoon, before the other wedding?

No, the dinner is not typically at the same place as the wedding.

I think you should check with the people that you are expecting at the rehearsal dinner. Some people would prefer another day to explore, while others might have a problem taking off more time of work. It’s totally ok to have the rehearsal someplace else in case you end up having it on friday.

Yeah, good idea to check with the venue. even if you do the rehearsal at like 10am on Friday, you can still do the dinner somewhere else (maybe even a nice restaurnat in Little Italy) later that night. So those that need to travel on Friday have time to get there. And others who already came in for the rehearsal have the day to explore and relax before the dinner. Sounds like a win-win!

We had our rehearsal on Thursday and rehearsal dinner Thursday evening on purpose. It did mean that it excluded some Out of Town folks but it was SO nice to have Friday to do last minute things and RELAX before the big day. Highly recommend!!

@aheavel:  I’ve never heard of that before.  All of the weddings I’ve been in have had the rehearsal anywhere but the same venue as the wedding.
