Wanted to warn everyone that if you are ever EVER thinking of doing an event at Revel Restaurant in Meatpacking, BEWARE!
I had a contract signed with them back in January, confirmed with them in May, and then just last Thursday (3 weeks before the wedding date) the events manager calls me and tells me that they had a “buyout” of the restaurant and are kicking me out of the space.
I went over the contract with a fine tooth comb and even sent to my lawyer bridesmaid and the did not have an exit clause. The closest thing they had was “should the restaurant be unable to perform services OUTSIDE OF ITS CONTROL…it will refund depost…” and reasons outside its control are only constituted by acts of God normally.
For some reason, I handled this better than I thought (FI thought I would lose it but I was scarily calm) and now I have a few leads on restaurants/spaces but it’s just so hard to find a place that is comparable to what you had with so little time! I think we may have found a good alternative with either Home, Bobo or Tree but there are definitely downsides to each. Home would be too tight of a space for my group, the food at Tree is pretty disappointing and I’d be hesitant to treat my guests to that, and Bobo is perfect in every regard but $1.5K higher than my budget range. But at the end of the day I’m sure it’ll all work out. I just wanted to put a word of warning out there!

This may be too far uptown for you but we had my rehearsal dinner at Parlor Steakhouse last Saturday night and it was AMAZING. The photos online do not do it justice at all. I don’t know what your budget is, but we had open bar, passed hor d’oevres, champagne and a three course dinner for around $6500. The space was really beautiful and the service was impeccable. I wish I could even convey how beautiful it was, but I really was blown away. My parents booked the whole thing and I’d never been there. I was a little worried it would be sort of a boring restaurant since it’s way uptown, but who knew! It was a really cool chic space! Everyone had a blast and we had the private room for the entire night. Good luck in your search!

We’re having ours at BLT Prime – they have a great private room downstairs with its own bar. We also looked at Saxon + Parole – two beautiful rooms. Are you going to take legal action? It seems you have grounds to do so. I’m shocked that they did that!!

We’re going to meet with Bobo today (in west village) to sign. I wanted a space with a garden area (which was what the original space had). We are actually spending more than we wanted to but at this point (2 weeks before the wedding) I don’t want to keep on doing research!
My BM who’s an attorney said I can probably take legal action and take them to small claims court but I’ll wait until after the wedding – maybe we can reap some $ back and that would be a plus, but for now we’re just focusing on the wedding!!

That is awful Revel did that – I can’t beleive that. Hopefully you get all your $ back and more. But Bobo is a great space as well. As another suggestion jsut in case, I went to David Burke Treehouse once for dinner and that had an interesting outdoor space. Good luck!
