My Future Mother-In-Law thinks I’m nuts for not wanting my rehearsal at my reception venue. When my Fiance commented to her about this tonight (my venue coordinator emailed to tell me she contacted her), she argued with him. He finally said “It’s her wedding” (meaning me), and she responded back “No it’s not”. Yea.. This is going to be rough.
So here’s my questions:
Where was your rehearsal dinner held at? Same venue as the reception or other location? Or did you just not have a rehearsal dinner?

We’re having two (one on the actual rehearsal night, which is a Tuesday and some can’t make it, so the 2nd is for those who can’t make it to deliver gifts and thank them for helping)
The first one is in a restaurant, and the second is at our home. I’ve never really heard of having the rehearsal at the same venue as the reception! We definitely can’t do that because we are providing our own caterer at our venue. That’d be hella expensive too!

We are doing ours at our house, since our wedding is formal, we really wanted a really relaxed atmosphere for the rehearsal and the FH wanted the opportunity to show off his meat smoking skills to both our families.
Most of the rehearsal dinners that I have been too were either at a restaurant or at someone in the families houses.

We’re having ours at a local park- an informal BBQ type thing. I’ve actually never heard of having the rehearsal dinner at the reception venue either, so Future Mother-In-Law should calm down 😉

Thanks! Wish she would just calm down, but I have a feeling that won’t happen. Thankfully my venue has an awesome coordinator who is keeping me informed when she contacts.

Ours was at a covered pavilion next to a lake. We decorated all the picnic tables, had lawn games and had BBQ. It was laid back and awesome and I loved it!

Ours was at my in laws house. I’ve actually never been to a Rehearsal Dinner at the venue, they’ve always been at different restaurants.

We are having ours at my house. I don’t think I’d want to have it at the reception venue either. It would be like a mini reception before the real one.

We had ours at Maggianos (chain italian restaurant owned by cheesecake factory) i really loved it because they have private rooms on the second floor. It was all dark wood and chandeliers plus the food was amazing!

I’ll add a little extra detail:
Our venue has a wedding the day of our rehearsal. We are doing the rehearsal before the wedding, and the dinner would take place during their ceremony most likely. It is a separate room, but you still have to walk by the ballroom to get there (which is all setup).
The newest concern “I don’t want people driving 15-20 minutes to another venue”……
Hoping with enough other venues, I can sway Fiance to really push her 🙂
Thanks for voting everyone – and keep them coming 🙂

We are having ours at a Greek restaurant and it’s gonna be very casual.
I think we will just be doing a casual bbq

We did ours inside of a private dining space in a restaurant. I do think having at your venue is a little strange, but it is your wedding! and you can do what ever your little heart desires.

- Wedding: October 2011 - Bed & Breakfast
We are having ours at a restaurant near our venue. We could do it at our venue, but my Mom and Maid/Matron of Honor both think that it would take away from the specialness of the wedding the next day. I don’t really care, so I will humor them.
FWIW, we are paying for everything ourselves, so we get to decide these things. However, if someone else were paying for the Rehearsal Dinner, I would generally follow that person’s lead in making the decision.

FI’s parents are covering the rehearsal dinner and we haven’t had much time to sit down and discuss the options yet so we currently don’t know where it will be – all I know is NOT our reception venue. I love the place, but I don’t want to eat basically the same food two nights in a row.
