My fiance and I are planning a smallish wedding (about 60 guests). It will be fairly casual – brief beach ceremony, reception at an American Legion, buffet dinner. Since we are on a tight budget I thought a picnic rehearsal would be fun. The beach is in a park, so we would rehearse there, then head up to some picnic tables, spread out some blankets, and have sandwiches and salads from an amazing local italian deli/bakery. My fiance has been talking about getting some fun lawn games – maybe volleyball, horseshoes, etc.
The problem is, we are the only ones who seem to think this is an awesome idea. Both of my parents think it’s kinda lame, although they haven’t used those words. My mom is concerned about bugs, but I hate to remind her that the ceremony will be in the same exact park the following day, and people happily have picnics all the time. One of my dearest friends and bridesmaids seemed surprised and maybe even annoyed that there would be no possibility of alcohol.
What do you think? Has anyone had a successful and awesome reheasal picnic?
