Personally, for the rehearsal I would go with the cocktail dress. If you did something like Kate’s I would feel like it would be too much of a wedding dress and take away from your Fiance seeing you in your dress the next day.

I LOVE Kate’s reception dress, but agree that this gown is a little too formal for your rehearsal dinner.  Could you recreate it with a more casual material – you know, like a fancier Jersey-type knit maxi dress, and add a special belt?  Otherwise, I agree that a cocktail dress would be best. 🙂

A dress like Kate’s 2nd one is wayy to fancy for the rehearsal dinner imo.

I agree with pengoalaLook for a dress with elements you love, but that isn’t as formal.  A short version of her dress would probably be okay, as would a maxi-dress that was a different material and wasn’t shaped like a ballgown.

If you really like that dress, why not wear it for your reception? Maybe even just for the last hour or so.  I think it is too formal for a rehearsal dinner.

@posh_princess: wait for a dress for the rehearsal or reception?

Kate Middleton’s was very pretty and elegant but it was a royal wedding so I think for a regular wedding, a cocktail dress would be great for the reception. Or something like the last dress you posted (third down) is more casual but great for dancing and what not.

I think a dress like Kate’s reception dress is way to formal for a rehearsal dinner.  Maybe find a white cocktail dress and add a blingy belt to it to get a similar look and feel?

@posh_princess: That last one you posted is beautiful, and if you have your heart set on a floor length gown for the rehearsal dinner, then I say rock it girl! 🙂

Wear whatever you want. I wore a shorter (but very formal) AA dress I got at a Bridal show.
