@PassionatePhotoLady  There is no speaking in generalities on here.  You must qualify everything or risk bursting into flames!

@ElbieKay  i can imagine the range of motivations for this would be wide. I think wedding planning probably becomes like a sport for some people. It’s their entire world for 12 or so months…they’re obsessed with the minutiae and it forms the focus of their lives until the next project comes along (babies, setting up house, starting a business). So it is important to ‘achieve’ the blog published status because it ‘proves’ that you are right, your tastes are validated, you win.

You know that makes perfect sense. Never thought of it that way.

@happilyengaged4  Good for you! And don’t listen to all the naysayers on here, being on a blog is a nice way to give a shoutout to your vendors and get to share your creative vision. i wish you luck, don’t forget to post a link once you get in! and i also thought of another blog, Elizabeth Ann Designs, our photographers mentioned the lady that runs that. we had a formal ballroom wedding as well, and she reached out to them to feature and even though we didn’t end up going with that blog, it was super pretty and she looks like she loves a traditional wedding.

You know…it’s funny. I’ve finally realized only you determine your success. SMP recently accepted me to be on their Little Black Book for a ‘small’ fee of at minimum $1000. That’s not a small fee. I do this part time and teach the rest of the year. They spent an hour of my long distance on a cell phone telling me how amazing I was…and then gave me the pitch at the end of the call that I was special enough to PAY them to be featured. I’ve submitted over 20 weddings to them and I think 2 or 3 have been featured. These days you go through their blog and EVERY SINGLE PHOTOGRAPHER featured shoots FILM. There’s a huge trend back toward film now and indeed it’s a cool look. But expensive. Seriously scroll through about 50 of the past weddings and tell me they are not from the same photographer. They all. look. the same. That’s not what this industry is about. It’s about capturing the uniqueness of the couple and THEIR wedding. The couple might “like” the SMP style if they even know what it is – but wouldn’t they rather be original? Have something unique to them? Don’t fret about it. I did and it was a complete waste of time. 🙂
