With the holidays coming up, I was doing our budget plan for Christmas gifts and realized that by the grace of God, somehow we have a bit extra this year. I really, really want to start teaching my son the real value of giving and so I really want to adopt a family with young children this year.
I’ve been googleing for about an hour now only to be frusterated. I want to find an organization that is 100% trustworthy and will give each gift straight from my hands to the hands of the family. I really hate the thought of “Charities” that still have a middle man in them and somehow profit from this needy family. Does anyone have a favorite? Or know of a good one? Any help would be great!

If you want to go really local……..my department at work sponsors a family each year through our local family violence shelter. The way we found our contact who matches us with our family each year is I contacted our City’s Department of Health and Human Services who put me in contact with the head of the Social Services division.
He matches us with a family (or two), and we get a list from the family, and purchase gifts, wrap them and drop them off either with the Social Services guy, or with the family themselves (we usually drop the gifts off straight to the family).
Maybe your city has a similar person to contact? Good luck!

@gabrielleelise1981: Thank you! That is a great idea to call my local DHS. I don’t know why I didn’t even think of that. I will probably just give the gifts to the social worker. As much as I would love to give the gifts personally, I just know I would be an emotional wreck. That was my biggest fear though giving the gifts to someone else to give to them. But I guess it is their social workers job. Thank you again!
