I’m not so familar with Raleigh. A few towns near Raleigh that are nice: Morrisville, Cary and Apex. All within a short distance of Raleigh, although traffic on I-40 during rush hour times is not fun. Traffic can also be a bear going into/out of RTP (research triangle park) in the morning/evening. A number of apartment complexes in the area are pet friendly, but I don’t have any specific recommendations for you.

Umstead park is near by and has some great trails for walking dogs.

My sister lives in Pittsboro.  It is a very cute town about 35 mins from raliegh.  Very layed back/earthy.  Any where in the area is really nice though with tons of parks and walking trails.  She loves it!

We live in Benson and Raleigh is about 45 minutes from us. We are actually moving there in June! Look into, Clayton, Garner, and Raleigh. Try to stay away from Downtown Raleigh, as it is not too nice!! Good luck 🙂 You will love it here! We came from CT, and absolutely fell IN LOVE, and would never move back! 🙂

@Shamrocks2117:  Hello! I live in Raleigh. My fiance works in North Raleigh too while I work in downtown. We really like where we live so far. It is between the two beltlines so travel is super efficient. We have been in Raleigh for six months but have lived in NC since childhood.

Oh feel free to PM me. I’ve pretty much researched the heck out of apartments here.

I’m relocating to the Raleigh Durham area in June too!! I’ll be working at UNC, so I think we’re going to live in SW Durham. We have a dog too and want to rent a house. It looks like a great place!!

@RunnerBride13:  I believe my good friend lived in SW Durham growing up pretty much right next to UNC. She loved it. There are many areas in Durham that are undesireable like any other city, but there are lots that are very nice as well. Good luck here.

I’ve lived in Cary and Apex. Cary is a very nice area but is a much more expensive place to live typically. I really liked it there, though, and if I were to go back to the area, Cary is where I’d want to return. Even the not so nice areas of Cary are nicer than than some of the middle ground areas in the town I’m in now.

Apex is also a nice little suburb as is Fuqay Varina and Morrisville. All are quick drives to the Raleigh area.

Raleigh is a great little city! I also moved here from Niagara Falls, NY – there are A LOT of WNYers here.

@mandauhhxo:  I’m not sure what you mean by downtown Raleigh not being too nice- that’s not my experience at all. I would avoid SE Raleigh… but downtown Hillsborough St, Fayetteville St, Wilmington St, near the capitol etc is all very nice.

There are a TON of apartment complexes – some of the most popular areas are by North Hills, Brier Creek, and Olde Raleigh. It just depends what you’re looking for.

If you’re looking for restaurant suggestions check out Raleigh’s yelp page: http://www.yelp.com/raleigh-nc-us Although good luck finding pizza & wings like in WNY.

Feel free to PM me with any questions. Welcome!!

I was an army brat who lived in a LOT of places and Raleigh was def my favorite, surprisingly. (It is constantly getting placed in those “top ten places to live” things). The area is just great because there is so much to do. It’s pretty diverse with 3 major universities all within 30 minutes of one another. Places like Cary and Apex, you will find that your rent/ mortgage might be a little bit higher then if you were in like garner for example.

I live in Smithfield. I dont recommend living here but Clayton is nice.  If you want country living.  Id stay away from downtown. North Raleigh is the nicest in my opinion. Also Briercreek is nice. Lots of good shops right there. There are a lot of apartment complexes around. I would just stay away from downtown and away from NC State.   I work in Durham which is next to Raleigh.  I wouldnt move here though.
