Hello fellow bees!
I need your advice – my engagement ring is a half eternity (channel set) with a large oval diamond and a halo of diamonads around it – after getting it resized larger my ring now looks ‘pointy’ where the diamond shoulders end and the plain band begins. I understand this is probably due to not being able to stretch out the diamond section and so all of the resize has been done on the plain area but I was never told this.
Not only does it look slightly pointy the band width has now gone thinner and it looks thicker on one side compared to the other (in my job every mm is accounted for and so i am pretty OCD about things which doesnt help)
My question is – should i have a new platinum ring made and have all of my diamonds transferred to the new ring (it would look exactly like my current ring but would be made to measure so no pointy edges/uneven sides etc
should i just have a new shank? Cut the thin uneven bottom section out and then put a new thicker piece in.
I know some people would look at my ring and think there is nothing wrong with it but when its your own and you can stare at it all day, you can see the imperfections and it drives me crazy! One part of me thinks go with the full new platinum ring as it would be brand new, exactly the size i want with no tampering and because it will use my diamonds nobody would be able to tell and i would have piece of mind –
But another part of me thinks what if something happens to the diamonds? Can having just a new shank make it all better? Would i not feel like the ring has been tampered with yet again and now it is actually 2 diffrent pieces stuck together?
If i went for the full new ring i would ask the jeweller to use the platinum from the original ring to make my wedding band – so i would still have the full ring in principle
Im so undecisive and my anxiety is through the roof! I know its just a ring but its for life and i want it to be as perfect as possible.
