magnoliakiss :  You shold show us the ring.  Many bees here have experience with remakes and heirloom pieces and great advice.  But we have to be able to see what we’re commenting on hehe.

Yes to restoring parts of an “heirloom” ring. I had this done to my grandmother’s engagement ring several years ago. I had both the setting area and the band of the ring added to, to make the ring less fragile and to make it wearable every day.

The ring began as a simple High Belter (?) setting, and now after restoration it looks just as it did when new, but with more structural strength.

magnoliakiss :  Your engagement ring is AMAZING. I’ve never seen one exactly like it. I will try to post a shot of mine, which by contrast is very plain, but I think it may in fact help you to see what has been done to it.

Unfortunately I don’t have a “before” shot, but I think you’ll get the idea when you see the restored version.

SORRY- the setting is a BELCHER- you can google it. “Belter” is Victorian FURNITURE.

SO BEAUTIFUL!!!!

I would just have a bench jeweler restore it. It is so unique and gorgeous. A skilled jeweler will be able to shore up the setting for you.

I have a ring that was my grandma’s. I went to get it sized, and the jeweler noticed it had a crack in the bottom of the setting, and some of the prongs were very worn. She ended up fixing it, and it’s as good as new. It was SO CLEAN and sparkly when I got it back. I need to get it cleaned by her again.
