Hi everyone! I have about 6 1/2 months left until our date and I finally found a dress! I had only seriously considered strapless dresses until I found this one. I talked to alterations and they can remove the illusion neckline to make my dress strapless pretty easily. Since I hadn’t really considered a dress with straps, I’m having hard time warming up to the illusion, though it is pretty. I just feel like it makes my should look really broad. Opinions are appreciated, and if you’ve done anything similar please share how your situation ended up!
The front will go down a little farther if I have it altered to strapless. Here you can still see some of the neckline that I had tucked in.
Bonus: Belt or no belt?

Your dress is very pretty! But I am not a big fan of illusion in the front and personally I dislike strapless dresses, I just typically do not find them flattering. I think it would be beautiful if you could trim the illusion in the front to look like the sleeves in the back and carry those sleeves to the front of the dress. I think that would be very flattering. I just prefer sleeves over strapless on almost everyone. And I don’t think the belt adds anything at all.

Personally, I think that the straps give it a little something extra and makes it different from other dresses, but it looks great either way! I agree that it would look nice with the illusion cut out and leave the straps, but if strapless is what you want then go for it – you’ll look beautiful either way! I don’t think your shoulders look broad at all so I wouldn’t worry about that, more just consider what you love.
I also don’t care for that belt, but I think a very thin jeweled belt would look really nice!

It looks like every other strapless with the illusiion gone – do leave it in place ,or at least leave the lace straps on. .
The ‘wider’ effect is because the sample is too small so the back is half open . Also, as with so many big belts , it makes your waist look wider than it is, so no belt – or if you feel you really want one – a very narrow one.

I would definitely ditch the belt. Instead of altering this dress, could you just find a strapless one that would not require any alterations.? I’m guessing there are thousands of strapless fit and flare style dresses on the market with tuelle and graduated lace.
