Last October, 2012, my hsuband and I got married. It was very last minute because I was pregnant and my family doesn’t believe in sex before marriage so it was pretty thrown together. It was very small with just our immediate families. It was beautiful and I couldn’t of asked for a better day…but it wasn’t my DREAM wedding. We want to plan another bigger wedding next October (2014). Is that normal?

@LizzPatt2381: I don’t know if it’s normal, but I think you guys should do a vow renewal! I don’t see why not! 🙂

Don’t worry about what is “normal”. Do whatever you and your family would be happy with.
Vow renewals are usually reserved for milestone anniversaries or after a quickie military wedding.
However, you are free to do what you want.
We are renewing our vows for our fifth anniversary, because we eloped the first time. There will be several wedding elements, despite what the etiquette websites say. I am wearing a wedding gown, there will be an anniversary cake, flowers, favors and a photographer. It is for me as well as my husband.

Doing a vow renewal for exactly this reason is a lot more common that what you may think! We frequently have couples come in who are planning a vow renewal who had to get married without family and friends for a number of reasons. Go for it!
