This may be a silly question but is it common for groomsmen to rent SUITS instead of tuxedos? I really do not like the look of a tux and would MUCH rather have my man in a designer suit… but the groomsmen will HAVE to match. I will not have it any other way but feel like it is asking way too much to even consider having them purchase suits just for this occasion.
Is this a weird question? Is this possible? 🙂

There are places that rent suits but their selection is generally pretty limited. What about having them all wear their own black suits? Then those who have one don’t have to buy and those who don’t can find one at a price point they are comfortable. Put them in the same shirts and ties and you will barely be able to tell that they aren’t in the same suits. 🙂

Places rent suits but the two places we looked at had limited selections. What don’t you like with a tux? I really don’t like cummerbuns and bowties so we opted for vests and long ties.

Alot of places rent suits, Mens Warehouse is one of them. You might do some checking around before you rent them. I was able to buy our Groomsmen really nice suits at Burrlington Coat Factory for less than the rental was going to cost. They all got exactly the same suit and they got to keep them. And there are a ton of sales going on right now if you can coordinate getting them out there shopping. I was actually able to get mine all there on one day and they really loved that they got to keep them.

@redhead46: I guess when you take away the cummerbunds and bow ties a tux is okay. I guess I always figured tux means cummerbund, bow tie, and tails (ew). No offense to anyone but I can’t stand that look lol. Plus my fiance is skinny he needs a slim fit, if he wears regular suits he looks like he is dressing up in his father’s clothes, lol!
@tksjewelry: Did you purchase the suits as your gift to them? That is so generous of you!

Jos A Bank has a sale on right now- buy one suit get two free. Other bees have posted about similar sales by Mens Wearhouse.
http://www.overstock.com also has great deals on suits.
If they get a good deal, a suit can cost not much more than renting a tux and they get to keep it.

We are going with suits! I also much prefer suits to tuxes. We’re renting them from Moores with no problems!

We are also going with suits. Not sure where you are but rentals by us where costing $140 per tuxedo. Renting suits is not available. Thanks to the Bee I found makeyourownjeans.com where you can order custom suits for $110.00 including shipping. Fiance still wants to try buying them somewhere and there are great deals at stores right now but how can you beat a custom fitted suit?! Plus you can pick out the fabric color. We are charging everyone $150 and will buy a tie, a shirt and socks alond with the suit. The guys will provide their own shoes. Win win I think!
