@ChellFish22:  My wedding set is from Shane Company. I’m not sure if you have one near you.  You pick the setting you want and then you can pick the diamond you want.

I also had a good experience at Zales.

In your situation, I would go with James Allen. Great customer service, prices way lower than chain stores, quality way higher than chain stores, great upgrade policy. You see pictures and video of all the stones before buying. You could get about 0.5-0.6 carat round solitaire in 14k white gold with your budget. 60 day returns, 100% refunds, lifetime warranty.

@ChellFish22:  Sorry you lost your ring. You’re in Hawaii, right? If you’re on Oahu, I would recommend looking at some jewelry stores in Chinatown in Honolulu. If you can stay local, no matter which island you’re on, you’ll probably find higher quality at a lower price.

@ChellFish22:  what about Costco? They have some beautiful rings at a variety of price points.

Or, if you are willing to buy from a place that isn’t brick and mortar, definitely Blue Nile.

Shane Co is definitely the best with upgrades. Since you don’t have one near you, maybe you could buy from them online?

@ChellFish22:  Both my rings came from Blue Nile. You pick your diamond specs and build ring from there. amazing customer service!! Here is my set from there 🙂

I would buy online, with a place that offers upgrades.  Mall jewelers or chain stores are really not going to give you the most for your money.

@ChellFish22:  I have a celebration diamond from Zales and it is truly gorgeous! But I’d suggest going into one of their bigger stores. I had to hunt to find the diamond I wanted. I lived in Denver at the time and found the one I have in Houston. They called them up and had it shipped to me with in a few days. (I was being picky with the specs) But I got what I wanted without a hitch. They have a good return policy too. I have moved several times and the smaller stores are sometimes harder to work with. (I think it’s easier for corporate to catch flaws in discounts and etc.) The bigger stores can get away with more. I traded in my original Zales ering for the Celebration diamond and it was easy, but you have to spend twice the original amount. The best trade in policy I have seen was at Shane Co. (you don’t have to spend any certain amount to trade up).

My set is from People’s/Zales. We live in a decent sized city and there are three loactions to choose from, and I have been to all three. Two of them totally suck and are rude, but the one that is in the relatively quiet mall is amazing. If you have a choice choose a store that is in a lower-traffic location, the staff needs to be more pleasent to get your business.

Please, please, please don’t buy from a chain store!  You will end up definitely OVER spending on a lesser quality diamond.  I highly recommend that you get your diamond from Whiteflash (http://www.whiteflash.com)  They have a LIFETIME upgrade policy and you do NOT have to spend double on the upgraded diamond.  They have superb customer service and they will always ensure to make you happy.

My boyfriend just purchased my engagement ring from them but I was involved in the process from the beginning. You will definitely get more diamond for the money if you go with a reputable online vendor, trust me.

Just google reviews or go to  http://www.ivouch.com for customer reviews of Whiteflash (which I happily recommend) or James Allen.

For a super sparkly diamond, make sure that it is an AGS 0 certified diamond. Any diamond from Whiteflash that is in their A Cut Above or Expert Selection category will be guaranteed sparklers.

PM me if you would like more info! 🙂

@ChellFish22:  Did you look at the Celebration Grand or the Fire? The grand will look bigger but the Fire will have even better sparkle and specs. I think there is a $300 difference between the two. I have the Celebration 102 (which is between the Fire and the Grand) but I don’t think It comes in 1/3ct. If you decide to go with a Celebration diamond, definitely call the other stores and compare it to the stone that your local store has in stock. I ended up with a G, VS2. The one that they had in the Denver store was an I, SI2 and they were the same price. I had an independent jeweler grade mine and confirm it is what they say it is (quality wise).
