On ours we figured out how many seats needed to be reserved for each and printed it right on there. It didn’t take that long – there were a ton of 1s, 2s, and 4s which I think are the most common groupings (singles, couples, families). So we printed all the 1s at the same time, all the 2s at the same time, etc.

I say hand write!  I really wish I had done this for our RSVP, but I figured it out to late and had some people RSVP for more people then were even in their family, it was akward but they got a phone call about who the extra people were and we said no you can not bring random guests to the wedding!!!

what I did that seems to be working well so far is to put as many lines as people you have invited from that household. so for example, if I was inviting 2 people I would write:

Mr/Ms/Mrs __________ will/will not attend.

Mr/Ms/Mrs __________ will/will not attend.

Also, under, each line, I put 3 check boxes for the meal option – I think this made it clear.

We’ve finally decided on:

How exciting! ____ seat(s) is/are reserved for ____________________

Yes, I’m there! _____ of _____

No, I’m square! __________

And we will fill it in with:

How exciting! 2 seat(s) is/are reserved for John Smith and Jane Doe

Yes, I’m there! _____ of 2

No, I’m square! __________

I really don’t like “seat(s)” and “is/are,” but I can’t think of any way around it.

We did:

___ of ___ will attend

___ regretfully decline

We are filling in the second blank with the number, so its clear how many are invited. There were several people who are single and we couldn’t afford to plus one, also we don’t want small children. We are also doing an inner envelope where it will be spelled out who exactly is invited.
