I’m really conflicted – I got my engagement ring in a size 4.5 – three jewellers sized me as that, but I think because it was so cold over the winter, my knuckle contracted a little. Now that we are back to more reasonable weather, the ring fits me perfectly at the base, but it’s ultra snug over the knuckle – ie I need lotion or to tug really tight to get it off. You can see some red marks on the inside of my ring finger.
Do you think I should size it up a little? I’m afraid that it will then be too big at the base and it sits perfectly – no superfluous spinning. I wear it every day but just don’t quite know what to do. Does making the band larger compromise the setting? The band is micro pave, 3/4 around.
Thanks for any advice!

Re-sizing pave rings can compromise the integrity of the setting, but it’s not unheard of or impossible to do if you have a quality jeweler.
That said, I have to fight with my engagement ring to get it off sometimes. I’ve read that it should take a well-fitted ring about three seconds to take off, though. I’d rather have it be a bit tight and secure than too loose and have it possibly come off and get lost, IMO.
Edit: Also, my wedding band is the same size (5.5) as my engagement ring, but it’s comfort-fit so it “wears” a little bigger. Having my engagement ring a little snug makes me feel that both rings are safe on my finger.

as long as you can
get it off I’d leave it. My ring isn’t quite as big as yours but before I had it sized down the weight of the diamond it spinning like crazy! Even now in cold weather it still sometimes spins. If you plan on wearing it all the time you really want it to be secure.

I would probably leave it. My ring is a 4 but can probably be sized down to a 3.75 to fit more snuggly and eliminate the spinning (my wedding band is a 3.75 and fits perfectly). Like PP said, a bit tight is better than too loose.

I would give it through the summer season to see how bad it really is. Problem is if you make it larger, then it may spin once it’s on, and then may be too loose in the winter. Mine spins in the winter, but still cant be flung off, though it comes off easily. Usually in the winter I add a sizer. And then in the summer it’s more snug and doesnt spin so much, and on really hot days, I can’t get it on or off without practically ripping my knuckle off.

I agree. You wouldn’t want it to get too loose when it is cold!

My ring is quite loose in the winter and perfect when my hands swell in the summer. I pefer it to be a bit loose than have the muffin top finger.
