@echolove:  I shopped around near me and mostly got quoted between $40 and $60. However, I found one jeweler that quoted me $25 and only charged me $20! Shop around and see what you can find.

It depends on a couple of things. What kind of metal is it? Platinum usually costs more to resize than white gold (although you’re going down sizes, so it’s not as expensive usually as upsizing).

What kind of ring is it? Some rings can’t be resized that much, depending on the style. I’d check with a jeweler first to make sure you won’t run into any structural integrity issues after resizing.

ETA: I just read your post before mine. Does the engagement ring have any side stones or pave small stones in the band? I think that’s where the issue with sizing larger amounts comes in.

Also, I got my platinum ring sized up 1 full size and the jeweler charged me $80. Again, that’s platinum and sizing up, so it’s more expensive.

@echolove:  Mine was only going down from a 4.75 to a 4.4ish, so that’s probably why it was cheap. It was also plain white gold.

The place my Fiance got it from did it for free…. I took a few weeks.

That’s a really beautiful ring. Make sure you have a jeweler you trust that you can take it to — a ring with that many sidestones is trickier to resize than a plain band.

Sometimes though, it’s worse when a jeweler says that they CAN do it, and then the ring gets mangled (I’ve seen threads like this on the PriceScope boards). Hopefully it won’t be a problem!

I just dropped a ring off for resizing, going from an 8 to a 5, and it’s going to be 40 dollars, plus an additional 25 for the redipping of the white gold. And I dropped it off yesterday, and he said it would be ready by Saturday!

@echolove:  It really will vary depending on where you live.  In my local area I got quoted betwen $50-$75 just for a redipping.

Reading the earlier posts, and that really is a lot of difference depending on where you do it! but maybe it would be better to pay the extra dollars do get it done right?:)

I think it depends on the region too. My jewler did it for free and it only took 3 hours.
