For the meal thing, just have your guests initial their meal choices.

Before you freak… Make sure your venue doesn’t come around and ask what each person is getting so they can give them a little card. I freaked out so my fi made something, and we were going to put it on the back of the rsvp card. Then I found out that it doesn’t matter who got what as long as I had a number they came around and asked.

@Future Mrs.Schug:  How about something like:

A seat is reserved for you and _________ guests (and you fill in the number of guests).

And then lines so guests can write in their names and write in their mail choice?

Usually you can guess who chose what, but you can always call and ask too. Besides, if you have the fish served to the wife and the steak to the husband, they’ll jsut swap. No big deal.

@BetterSherm:  That makes it sound like the invitee can invite whomever they want as a guest. You want to be clear that only those listed on the invitation envelope are invited and you can’t, say, bring your BFF if your husband can’t make it.

@mrsSonthebeach:  I’ve never received a card that had the potentional guests’ guest name on it. When I was invited to my friends’ wedding, she had never met my then Boyfriend or Best Friend and put that I could bring a guest on the invite. It was assumed, probably, that I’d bring him, but it didn’t specify him and only him.
