I would say a month.  That is what we did for ours and most guests were out of town.  When does your caterer need to have the final number?  You want to have a week at least before that after the RSVP date in case people are slow responding to you and you have to track them down.

It all depends on when your venue needs the final count.  Ours needed a final number by two weeks before the wedding so we made the RSVP date two weeks before that so we had time to round up the slow pokes.. and we needed all of that two weeks to get their answers from them!

I’m going to echo Moose1209 – find out when you need your final count and add 2 weeks!

Don’t forget that if you’re doing a seating chart/assigned tables, you’ll need time to work that out as well. I’d say a month is good.

I agree with the ladies above. We have to turn a final number in to our venue 1 month before, so I am asking for all RSVPs by 6 weeks before.
