Hello ladies! I’m new to this thing. Just got engaged 2 weeks ago, and am planning a fall wedding for next year. We haven’t decided if we’re going to get married in DC or Baltimore, but we have decided that our ideal reception size is under 100 people; 80 would be great.
I just moved to DC from NYC, so I’m not too knowledgeable on the restaurant scene. We are both foodies, so good, innovative food is a must! I’m not entirely sure what the budget is just yet; waiting on ideas before we come up with a solid number.
Anywhere in the city is fine.

A good place to start might be this Washington Post article about places to hold rehearsal dinners. http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2006/05/23/AR2006052301397_pf.html

Mrs. Tulip had her reception at a unique looking venue, I think it was a tea house? You should look through her archives to see the photos, they were gorgeous.
Other places that spring to mind:
Smith & Wollensky

I interviewed a wedding planner who was planning a wedding at Sequoia in Georgetown. Of course, Old Ebbit Grill is a popular choice as they have private dining rooms. There is also 2941 Restaurant in Falls Church, VA which is popular for weddings.

If you want something with an incredible DC atmosphere, you may want to check out the rooftop at Charlie Palmers. The food is amazing, and it has the best view of the Capitol in the city. They’re doing a “sparkling wine” tour right now to check out the facilities. The event planner is out of town until next Monday, but booking site visits after that:

I’m most familiar with Alexandria. There is the Morrison House and Jackson 20. I’ve seen wedding receptions at both.

I am having my reception at a place called Indigo Landing in Alexandria. It’s at the Marina and has great views of DC (you can see most of the monuments and the Capital too!)

I’m having my wedding at the Sequoia in Georgetown. It is a beautiful restaurant with a gorgeous fountain and trees with lights on them outside for lots of photo ops. We’re renting out the main dining room for a party of 200, but they have a private dining room that may be sized better for your wedding.
Plus, Robin, their event coordinator, is super nice and helpful. Good luck in your search!

There is a place in Arlington called Top of the Town which is a venue on the top floor of a building. The view is of DC. Here’s the link: http://www.topofthetown.net/
