I’m having my ceremony and reception at Wahoo Grill in Decatur. For the reception, it’s running about $3500 for 75 people. That’s including location, dinner, beer, and wine.

I love Canoe and would have loved to have the wedding there, but it wasn’t in our budget.

Restaurant receptions tend to be more affordable because they seldom charge a facility fee. However, you will have very limited choices on restaurants when your guest count is over 100 because there are only a few restaurants that have banquet space large enough for over 100 people. If you are thinking about doing a restaurant reception, I suggest you try to keep your headcount at 100. Then maybe 80 of them will show up and you can find a place that has private dining room that is large enough.

Other things to consider is that restaurant receptions tend to be less private (a lot of times outside of the private dining area, there are still regular diners), and less customizable (you should like their menu before you pick them because it is most likely going to be something similar).

I do highly recommend restaurant receptions when the couple is on a budget and have a smaller guest list (around 100 people maximum).
