Hi Hive–Restaurant.com is having a sale today only–90% off gift certificates! Get a $25 dollar certificate for $1 or a $100 certificate for $4! Use the code “WOW”
The sale also seems to apply to the dinner of the month club which gives recipients a $25 dollar certificate to Restaurant.com for each month you purchase! (3, 6, or 12 months) We’ve decided to add them on as a little extra gift for the bridal party since we don’t know which restaurants they like or are convenient since they’re from all over the country. Sure there’s an extra step involved than redeeming these vs. a standard certificate, but for a quick, budget gift, it certainly works well!

Okay so, can someone explain to me how Restaurant.com works? I’ve checked it out but wondered if it’s “too good to be true…”

@Gemstone: I remember reading a list of ‘helpful’ websites in a magazine, and I can’t remember whether it was Oprah or Good Housekeeping (I know, odd choices, but they were both my mom’s). So I think it’s at least a legitimate site…

It’s very legit, I have used it several times. You purchase a cert and sometimes you can get them for $3 or $2, today they are $1 (I’m having trouble getting on the website, I’m sure it’s overloaded right now). You print the cert and you have a year to use it. Each restaurant migh have different “rules” of how to use it. Like some might exclude Friday nights or say that alcohol isn’t included in the total amount.

Restaurants do this to attract customers (especially in tourist areas). It’s totally legit and I used it Saturday. NEVER buy the giftcards without a code. The restaurant doesn’t make any money off the transaction (which is why there a certain restrictions and rules) restaurant.com is the one making a profit and since they aren’t selling you anything (besides a free portion of a meal the restaurant is providing).
I used one of these gift cards for sushi on Saturday. I bought a 50.00 coupon for 3.00- the restriction was we had to spend 100 dollars (easy! We love sushi). It doesn’t save you money per say but gives you an opportunity to try the things you may not because of budget.
