I don’t know about the wood stamp, but we have a self-ink stamp and I love it!

grace14:  We also have a self-ink stamp. For me, the ink pad is just another thing to keep track of and you have to clean off the wood stamp or let the ink dry before you can store it.

I used a wood stamp I bought on Etsy when addressing our invitations. I have a self-inking stamp for regular use, but I find it sometimes gets messy and hard to align, which is fine when mailing bills but I wanted to make sure my invites looked as nice as possible. Maybe my stamp just sucks though lol.

i love a wood stamp with pad. you can change colors any time you want. clean it easier. i just prefer regular stamps. (Although clear acrylic blocks with clear stamps are my favorite so you can line them up easier and see through)

we got a wood stamp from etsy. i embossed my return addresses in gold and it looked beautiful – not something you can do with a self-inker. plus you can change the ink colors.

    grace14:  Self-inking is less fuss.

Wood stamp offers more color options but also more storage for extra ink pads. Store these ink pads flat.

I also used a wood stamp. Our envelopes were a dark pewter color so I used a highly pigmented silver ink pad. The nice bonus about the wood stamp is that we can use it over and over with different ink colors (green for Christmas cards, red for Valentine’s etc).

I made a wood stamp for my invitations. We went with a wood stamp versus self inking because it was easy to change color with different ink pads and be able to do a gold foil if we wanted. (I made the stamp with just our first names so that we could use it for everything before, during and after the wedding! 🙂

Personally I think the self inking stamp prints more evenly.

I have a self-inking stamp never messy or hard to align. Zero clean up – I bought it off Etsy. I’ve never had any luck with wood ones – too messy, more fuss.

soontobedrt:  sure! it being wood doesn’t really matter, just that you can use the stamp with multiple types of ink. this tutorial is really helpful:

basically, you just ink your stamp pad with pigment ink, stamp, and sprinkle embossing powder on top. shake off the excess and heat set it with an embossing heat gun. and voila! it creates a pretty, raised look.

I have a self-inking from Etsy and love it. Stamps evenly and no fuss.
