I like the dress, I don’t think its too 80’s, so I say use it, especially since it has a tie in to your past 🙂

@MJeanetteK:   It was handmade by a family friend in 1987

Is this friend coming to the wedding too? It would be super and (very sentimental for the family friend) if you could have the dress there at your wedding! At least the friend will know the dress was very appreciated and well cared for all of these years!

id use it again…but take it to seamstress and have it altered a tad. I would remove the sleeves and collar and change the belt to give it a more modern look.  Im sure the emotions are well worth the lil extra you would pay for the alterations.

LOVE the idea, not sure if I’m loving the dress though.  Would you consider getting the dress altered so it’s a little more modern?

Would you be open to having it altered slightly? I think the last ruffle on the bottom is that part that really dates it. Depends if your sentimentality wants to keep it exactly the same or if you just want to use the dress. I voted make sure they really like it because if they do it’s a really sweet idea. If there was an other I would say have it altered just a little, remove/change bottom ruffle and maybe change the sleeves a bit.

@shalynnmarie:  I agree! Update the classic with a modern twist. The dress will still be recognizable!

I think it is adorable, and a sweet idea. I don’t think it is too dated 🙂

However, a few small alterations (perhaps removing the sleeves and collar) would make it a bit more current while still preserving the dress and its sentimental value.

I love the idea.  I agree about having it altered a little just to take the 80’s look out of it.

I think you should include it if there’s any way to make it work – but I like things that have sentimental value.  If I were to alter it, I’d likely just have the collar removed, making the neckline more like a rounded, scoop neck if that makes sense.  I think everything else is fine – ruffles included. 🙂  Let us know what you decide!

I had the same idea!  I had a flower girl dress I wore in 1989 and we were going to reuse it for my wedding.  But like yours, it was definitely verrryyy 80s and we would have had to do a TON of work on it.  In the end, the work was too much and we scrapped the idea.

I would say for that dress to work, you would definitely have to alter it.
