This is my review of the Completion programs at Target, C&B and Macys. If you have reviews for other stores, please add them below so that future brides will know the pros and cons for each.
I registered at Target, Crate and Barrel and Macys. My SIL told me that it takes awhile for the coupons to come, but I received all 3 completion coupons while on our Honeymoon.
I will start with the store with the best completion program.
CRATE AND BARREL: After the wedding the newlyweds receive 10% off at the store(as is the same amount at Target and Macys). Crate and Barrel just changed the completion policy though to be ANYTHING in the store(SIL informed me that it used to be only off of registry items). So, if you are needing a new dining room table, 10% off!
Another great benefit is that it has unlimited uses before it’s expiration date which is 6 months post wedding. I have already been three times and used 10% off each time. If ordering online, if you just sign in with your registry information, it will automatically take 10% off anything added to your cart.
MACYS: Macy’s is more of a flier than a coupon, so I have to keep it in a side pocket in my purse so that I don’t forget it(rather than in my wallet) Macy’s has the same percentage off as the other 2 stores.
It states on the coupon that the percentage off is only for registry items, however; when I bought towels that were not on the registry the lady was kind enough to try and put the code in, and the computer took the 10% off. I have only tried it on non registry items once, so I don’t know if it was just a fluke or not. I have also heard that Macy’s sometimes runs a speacial to where for a week or two, all registry items are 20% off. So once you receive your completion coupon, look into that. Macy’s completion program only runs for three months post wedding(rather than C&B which runs for 6 months) but you can use the discount an unlimited number of times within that three month period.
TARGET: I have to say that Target had the worst completion program. However; I am glad that I registered there becuase about 60% of our gifts came from there(shower and wedding combined). Target has the same percentage off as the other 2 stores, however; to get the discount it has to be on registry items only, and they make you print out the registry before you make your purchase. I had to give up my place in line to go print my registry.
One thing that I wish that I had known prior is that the completion coupon is only good for one day. The cashier said that you can use it an unlimited amount of times and however many targets that you go to but it has to be used in one day. I wish that I had known this because I had arranged to where my Father-In-Law could come to Target with us to pick up an outdoor loveseat that we wanted to use the discount on, but we had to come back a different day because we were not prepared(not did we bring enough cash with us) to buy everything that we wanted to use the discount on that day(we had several other large items that it was beneficial for us to use the discount on).
Side not also: While registering for gifts, Target gave us the most headache. On some items when we scanned it, it scanned as something else. For example a tablecloth scanned as a box of diapers. (I heard that if there is another person in the store registering for baby items the signals can get crossed and her items end up on your scanner) still a bit of a headache.
So, this is my review of the Registry Completion Programs at Crate and Barrel, Macy’s and Target. If you have any stores that you wish to add(Bed Bath Beyond, William Sonoma, Pottery Barn…etc.) please add them below.
