Hello girls! I figure the least I can do to help out other brides is post some reviews of bridal stores I’ve been to in my search for a dress. I personally LOVE reviews of stores, they helped me decide which stores to go to and which not.
So, onto the review:
The Sample Room NY in NYC
Three Words: Dream Bridal Store!!
I loved this store! It is not huge, but it is well lit, and chock-full of GORGEOUS designer dresses! These are serious designer dresses that are marked down because they are sample dresses from prior seasons. The fabrics are amazing and the designer quality is out of this world! When I went, they had a new shipment of Jenny Packham dresses in, and OMG OMG OMG…to die for! I fell in love with a dress from a South American designer… Francesca Miranda (seriously, look her up!) and my mom fell in love with another dress also by Ms Miranda. The prices were a bit higher than my budget, so if you have a budget of $2500+ you will do just fine here. If not, be prepared to stretch your budget higher if you fall in love with a dreamy designer dress. If you are a true budget wedding dress shopper, I will be honest, this is not the store for you. I don’t think a single dress was under $2500. These dresses originally cost much higher (two I tried on cost over $8k originally), so for the cost of a “normal” wedding dress you can get a stunning designer dress.
The dress shipments and dresses in stock change constantly, and because of that, if you see your dream dress there, you really should buy it on the spot. Also, they only have available what they have in store…so if the dress is perfect except for something like color, they can’t order you the dress in a different color. What they have, is all they have. I didn’t end up buying my dress there, because the dress I fell in love with wasn’t the right color for me. If it had been though…oh let me tell you, I was seriously considering it.
Ok, on to the format. They are appointment only. I was in town for only 1 day, and they were able to squeeze me in that afternoon. (sheer luck, other places were completely booked, and this was on a Monday) They have only one dressing room “curtained-off” area. There are a series of large pier mirrors within the actual store to do the walk and twirl, and seating for the people you bring with you. This is not a large store, so I think they may only allow 1 additional person to be with you. You get to select the dresses you want to try on, all the available dresses are hung up on racks within the store itself. I think they were arranged by designer, not necessarily by style of dress. I had 1 dress assistant, although another girl helped out here and there. The employees at the store were super friendly and very helpful. I was able to try on about 5-6 dresses during the course of my appointment. Oh, and they let you take pictures!! 🙂 That is always a bonus. They also had accessories and shoes (designer shoes!) that were also samples and also discounted. So if you already have your dress, but are seeking a special accessory, this may be the place to pick it up.
Overall: A+ If you love designer dresses, and are bored with the normal offerings, this may be the store for you! The dresses were all in excellent condition (only a bit of store dirt) and the quality was out of this world! Seriously, I felt like I could have been in a bridal magazine shoot, what with all the different designer dresses on racks all around me.
(also, I’m just a regular bride, not affiliated with any of the stores or shops, and gain nothing by posting these reviews. Just offering my real opinion of these stores & my experiences, hoping to maybe help another bride)
