I am recently engaged and have just begun my search for venues. My fiance and I are planning on 2012, but haven’t selected a date yet. We are planning on seeing the Central Park Boathouse, Bridgewaters, and Battery Gardens. I just wanted to see if anyone could share any firsthand experiences- whether good or bad- to give us a complete picture of these venues.
We would also appreciate any other vanue suggestions. We would like something with a lot of windows and an outdoor space.

Hello! I am getting amrried at Central Park Boathouse in just under 6 weeks (aaah!). We are SO excited about the space. I’m not sure what kind of specific questions you have, but feel free to PM me if you want!
We also looked at Battery Gardens (where Mrs. Swan got married!) and Bridgewaters. Battery Gardens is a lovely space inside–very light and airy, and pretty reasonably priced, especially if you’re open to a Friday or Sunday. We didn’t like how it looked from the outside though; I thought it looked kind of run down and grimy, and that area isn’t really my favorite. I also didn’t like that the cocktails were downstairs and the reception was upstairs, and they don’t have an elevator. We have some older guests that it would have been difficult for. I also didn’t like that once you go up stairs for the reception, the restaurant downstairs is open to the public.
We really liked Bridgewaters, and I LOVED the coordinator that we would have had–I wanted to take her with us to the Boathouse, lol. The food there is amazing (they actually let us sample some while we were there on a tour since there was a wedding going on) and it seems like you get a lot of extras (like you can set up a grilling station on one of the outdoor decks). Ultimately, we decided that the look of the place just wasn’t for us–we didn’t love the decor inside.
As for other suggestions, checkout Tribeca Rooftop. It was one of the nicest places we saw, but was a little too expensive for us (although honestly, looking back, they give you sooo many extras there for free that it’s probably going to end up costing the same as the Boathouse).
Again, let me know if you have any questions about the Boathouse! 🙂
