Any Rhode Island brides out there? I’m from Massachusetts but I’m getting married in Rhode Island.
My Fiance and I met 10 years ago in the military and started dating shortly after a deployment together. Neither one of us are very religious so we asked our Company Commander to Officiate our wedding ceremony (the person who was in charge of our deployment overseas).
It’s becoming more and more common for couples to ask friends/family to officiate their wedding ceremony. People do it all the time. The process to become an officiant in Masschusetts is very simple. You pay a $25 fee and you get a one day license to perform a wedding ceremony. Apparently the process is much more complicated in Rhode Island (which I wasn’t expecting).
Are there any Rhode Island brides out there who have asked a friend/family member to Officiate their wedding? If so, what’s the process you took to have that person become a legal officiant? I know they can become an ordained minister online, but I’d like to avoid that since I’m not religious.
(At this point, I’m almost tempted to get the legal stuff done in my backyard in Massachusetts and then have the actual ceremony and reception in RI.)
