Feel free to skip all the rambling! Lol
We received a quote from our florist for all the flowers for our wedding (my bouquet, bridesmaids bouquets, centerpieces, petals down the aisle, podiums with flowers for the ceremony (which will be moved to either side of the head table for the reception), corsages, etc.) and it was WAY more than what was in our budget. Also, I had JUST convinced my fiancé to agree to a videographer, so the amount for flowers was just not going to fly…
Soooo, we found a wonderful idea here on Wedding Bee to make pomanders / topiaries (not really sure what people are calling them) out of ribbons! One of my bridesmaids actually found it and we all fell in love! That night, I went to the dollar store and grabbed a styrofoam ball and some white ribbon (I already had a few other colors of ribbon…) and I made a mockup just to see what it would look like. I loved it and my fiancé even liked it, so we went ahead and got all of the ribbon we wanted in our colors, all the styrofoam balls we needed, dressmaking pins, etc. (he was actually so wonderful and drove around for hours with me while we hunted down all the supplies we needed!!) and I made our first centerpiece the next night! My mother and two bridesmaids and I love it so much!!!!
On the other hand, I sent it to a friend who was very honest and said that she didn’t like it as she didn’t think it was elegant enough or appropriate for a wedding…but hey, you can’t please everyone! 😉
I’m so not an artsy-type person so I’m so proud that I was able to make this and, to be honest, it was so easy!! It’s just tedious, that’s all. But I’m actually enjoying making them (I’m on my second one now!) so I wanted to share it with you ladies!!
From the start, we knew we wanted a fun, party-type theme but we also wanted to keep it elegant and classy! Our wedding cake is white with black polka dots and teal ribbon around it and we’re having a candy table with the black and white theme with some teal accents and I’m going to try to find a table liner that’s white with black polka dots. Our party favors also go with the theme as they’re black gumball machines (about 5 inches tall) with white gumballs!
Sorry this was so long! Photo of my centerpiece below. It actually looks better in person because you can’t see the “bling” on one of the ribbons. lol
Thanks for reading. 🙂
