I really really really hope I dont get killed for saying this. BUT I do not think in any way shape of form he should have used being gay in the military to get his point across. There are plenty of other things he could have said, without offending people. This was very poor judgment. But I will say I do think that its wrong that people cant openly celebrate their religion in school the way they want to. When I was in 7th grade one of my friends committed suicide and we organized a prayer circle inbetween classes and we got in trouble for it, which still upsets me to this day.
SN: I’m from TEXAS also and a little embarrassed at the same time from this video.

Huffington Post had an article yesterday about how Rick Perry’s ad is the most disliked video on YouTube:
He really should just put down the shovel and stop digging himself into these holes.

double post….and excuse the smiley faces for some reason its the only way I can make post

That’s crazy. I don’t understand why students who wanted to participate in a memorial (prayer circle) on their own time(in between classes) would get in trouble.

There was no reference to religion or God at all in my school, and we would get in trouble for it….It was really sad. Thankfully the shirts had came out that said I BROKE A RULE and PRAYED IN SCHOOL, which we were also told not to wear.

Do they have a way of calculating how old American Idol voters are? Because you can vote for American Idol at any age but not in the elections. That and as PP said, you can vote multiple times in American Idol.
Another thing that’s sad to me though it that, for all the “efforts” to get younger voters out to the polls.. schools and work don’t cooperate. For the last election I had school all day and then work right after til late at night, so I wasn’t able to go vote. This happened to a lot of young people I know- and legally I was told my job had to give me a half an hour off without punishment, but the place I vote is a 20 minute drive one way so it didn’t matter.

When I watched it, I had to keep reminding myself I wasn’t watching a comedy sketch.
How dumb could Perry be? Seriously? Who exactly thought this was a good idea?
Sorry, but I have seen no evidence of Obama attacking religion. Anderson Cooper had a good response this ad. He showed Obama’s Christmas speech that was pretty religious.
This ad is just full of rhetoric and talking points that really don’t mean much, but are favorite arguments of the republican candidates. Except for Huntsman. Too bad guys like that don’t stand a chance. I can’t believe how bats#!t crazy some of the republican candidates are! It’s mind boggling.

Oh Stephen Colbert. You are the best.

When I was in school (crap, almost a decade ago) we were prohibitted from having tests on Thursday because of Wednesday night youth group. I was also called an idol worshipper by TEACHERS….so maybe I just don’t know where Perry was going.
Anybody else wish that the Republicans could just get their shit together? They are suffering from what the Democrats went through in 2004, everyone is just so unelectable.
(EDIT: I am not a Republican or Democrat, but I studied Politics and game theory in school, so I sort of participate in politics by treating them like the Oscars)

BTW, in the text of that HuffPo article there is this:
“The video itself has been so controversial, that Perry’s own staff is divided over it. Sources close to the Perry campaign have told the Huffington Post that even top officials in the campaign were uncomfortable with the language of the ad. Nonetheless, it began running in Iowa on Wednesday.”
Sounds like you’re 100% right… it was probably his idea, and his staff knew better but he railroaded them.

that doesn’t make a lot of sense to me. I’m an atheist and I would have ZERO problem with something like what you did happening in my kid’s school! The point is that schools shouldn’t be dictating religion to students… not that students shouldn’t be able to openly demonstrate their faith. Your prayer circle wasn’t offending or marginalizing anyone; it was a way of coping with a terrible tragedy. It’s a shame that that happened.

His campaign video made me SO MAD!
How the f*ck can someone be so ignorant and hateful?

See I’m in the same situation as you. Every school I’ve ever gone to as celebrated holidays like Christmas and Easter openly. We didn’t have sports practice on Monday afternoons because it was family home evening (which is a religious thing) and you could even take a seminary class at the school ( you didnt get any credit though). And Ive lived all over the country so its so weird for me o hear the other side.
I agree that is BS, and Im an atheist. I would have gone higher up to the district or even found a lawyer if something like that had happened fo me. Noone should be denied the right to grieve a friend in their own way.
Yeah it makes me furious… although on a good note, its great to see so many people who think this kind of behavior is unacceptable.
