I need to know if I’m overthinking this!
In our hunt for my solitaire moissy e-ring we’ve come across etsy vendor Rosados Box, also known as Love & Promise Jewelers of Chicago.
I had been looking at the Rosados Box store on etsy for a while when SO asked me if I wanted to join him for a business trip to Chicago (he had found a super cheap flight – lucky me!) and of course I’m now dying to go to the Love & Promise store to see my dream ring (skinny webster in yellow gold with a 1 carat or 1.25 carat FB RB) in real life!!! We agreed that if I also love it when we see it we’ll get it. 😀
So I’ve been emailing with Shirley (the vendor) and she’ll have the ring available for me to try when we come by for the appointment in a couple of weeks. The store has great reviews on both etsy and yelp, except for a couple of bad ones on yelp which are mainly concerning their return policy (I’m not worried by this – if we end up buying we won’t be returning, I’m pretty sure…)
But I’m still feeling at unease about the whole process. I feel like the whole moissy market is somewhat opaque. I don’t mind some warmth in the stone but would prefer as white a stone as possible (G-H-I color). In order to find out what FB stones they’re selling (the first generation or the second – I obviously want the newest stone available but they’re supposedly hard to separate) I asked how I could know that the stone i’d purchase from them would be a new stone and not old stock. The answer I got: that FB has lifetime warranty, will never change color and that their stones all come with certificates of authenticity etc. Some emails later I then asked again: I understand what she said about the warranty, color permanency etc, but that it was still unclear to me how old the stones she’s selling are, emphasizing that I of course would prefer a newer stone. AGAIN, she gives the same answer: “As for the forever brilliant moissanite, yes. It is a permanent process and it does come with a lifetime warranty. We will provide the warranty card with the purchase. Hopefully this helps.” She’s clearly not answering the question. I then asked if she pre-screens the stones, and if she will have several stones in the same sizes in the store (so I could see different ones and confirm that they’re either exactly the same or have color/cut differences in case I’m not happy with the one I see etc). She replied that she does pre screen and that they only have one stone pr. size available in the store.
So… What do you think upon reading this recap? I think it’s weird that she completely ignores my questions about how old the stones are. Ballpark answer would have been acceptable, but the fact that she seems to completely ignore it is strange to me – maybe she was just busy, or maybe something’s off. Also, only one stone available per size? I have the feeling that this is a really small store, but still?
I know most of you have bought your moissys online, but for those of you who bought it in a physical store, or know more about the optical differences in these stones than me, am I being paranoid here? I just want the best stone possible. I’ve seen moissy in real life before so I know I like it, now I just want the best stone, and I KNOW that the cut and color can vary slightly, although not as much as in diamonds. Would you consider it important to have several stones to compare or should I just chill and trust that her pre screening is enough?
That being said, she has otherwise been very helpful and accommodating and responded promptly to all my emails and I’ve literally only come across two bad reviews out of hundreds. It just feels like a plunge!
