Ok so I have no idea how I took so long to post about this, but over our vacation weekend (Memorial Day weekend), my SO said that he had picked out not one but three rings and was trying his hardest to be able to propose for our anniversary but what it really boiled down to was that he couldn’t decide on a ring. We decided to go last weekend, when we were both free. Sooooo he wanted me to go to the places he had looked to see if I happened to pick out the same ring. Uh… yeah, that didn’t happen, as we learned we have somewhat different taste in settings. So I’m actually really glad that we went. Buuuut we both found one that we really really liked! It’s a 1.3 center diamond set in platinum with an additional 1/2 carat in little diamonds in the band. It’s over 100 years old and best of all, it was actually less expensive than the others he had been looking at so there’s a better possibility of it sittin’ right here on this ol’ hand sometime in the nearer future π I am so excited. Shopping with him was a lot of fun. I thought it would be stressful, but we went out to a really nice lunch and he would have stayed all day and all night trying on rings if that’s what it took. Luckily, it didn’t, and we had a lot of fun looking through the gemscope at different diamonds and learning more about how to judge diamond quality. Sorry if the picture’s huge. This was taken inside, so you can’t see everything all that well, but the center stone goes to the edge of the square, and it’s nice and sparkly in real life. It’s a G in color/VS2 and I wear a 7 1/2.

@wishingonadream04:Well, I hope the same. When we were ring shopping, he acted like he was excited enough about it that I thought he would have bought it already. Well, I found out last night that he didn’t, so I’m kinda bummed, because it was my last day of teaching and he made kind of a big deal about it. It’s harder waiting once you know exactly what you want, and I’m super scared that it won’t be there anymore by the time he goes to get it. It’s the oldest and most unique in the store, so I’m certainly worried. Maybe he’s fibbing and has it already- I don’t know, but I’d really like for that to be the case.

Wow. That is a stunning ring! I wish we could’ve found some antique stores with fine jewelry. There aren’t any around us! I definitely have ring envy!

Thank you, guys! A lot of smaller, local jewelers will have an estate section, and many estate and auction venues have estate jewelry as well. The larger stores in our area had just about nothing that interested us, and I’m really happy that we found something old with a history. I love the old mine cut diamonds and it’s just something that’s harder to find these days. I know the top surface is smaller but the overall face of the diamond is usually larger, so I think it’s a good cut and I’m sad that it’s largely retired. We looked at a lot of settings and loose diamonds, but looking at a ring without a stone in it kinda creeps me out for some reason. I want to go to a store and put something on my finger and know exactly what it will look like. I don’t like the guesswork of matching stones with settings. This one just felt right. I think it’s important to look until you find something that suits you, even if it means waiting longer. Now, I know that my SO has a plan and I am pretty positive that this is the ring that I will be getting. I miss it! I wish it was on my hand π
