My Fiance and I have been engaged for a few months, he proposed with a sapphire ring I had seen at Macys and told him I liked. It is a 2ct oval sapphire surrounded by diamonds ala Princesses Diana and Kate… The problem is that there is a small pinhole imperfection in the sapphire.
I attempted to exchange it right away but they did not have any more in stock… then life catches up. I am already heading out tomorrow to deal with an issue with a Swarovski bracelet and was thinking of trying another Macys to see if I could exchange it. The problem is I feel a bit of guilt about doing so!
In a way I feel like it isnt THE RING, it is not the one he took out of the box and put on my finger, on the other hand, it makes me angry that I was sold something so blatantly faulty. The ring is from a line, being a bit more mass produced I would think there would be some more standard in making sure the product was perfect. Its not like he got a deal or anything on the ring because of a small imperfection, he still paid regular price!
So I am just torn about what to do, in a way it makes it unique and mine, but I worry that if I ever appraised it or something the value you be really reduced.
What do you guys think is the best thing to do? Should I keep it or exchange it for a different (but the same) ring?

I can completely understand what yo umean by “it was the same ring he proposed with” but when you think about it – it’s a symbol and although it will be a different ring, it’s the same style and you can have him place it on your finger when you get it 🙂

just curious, but is it a lab-created saphire? Otherwise the price should be based on inclusions etc. I’d exchange it if it bothers you!

Don’t stick with something that doesn’t make you happy! You want to be happy when you look down at that finger, not disappointed.

what do you mean a pinhole imperfection? An inclusion?
99.9999% of natural gems have inclusions of some sort.

Exchange it now while you can. If it bugs you now, it will always bug you. Good Luck and post some pictures. I love sapphires.

Hey ladies, I really thank everyone who took time to comment and vote on this! We did end up taking the consensus and exchanging the ring. I was able to get one without an inclusion, AND the store ended up having a sale so we got 50 bucks back from the price Fiance paid. I would say everything worked out well! It is now out for sizing so I feel slightly naked on that finger!
