- Wedding: April 2018
Ok ladies, I’ve found a place to vent, and I’m going to. Hubby and I are on our way to our 5th anny…not something that was easily acheived since he was badly injured at work right after we got married, he’s been home on work comp since then…but that’s not the issue, we’re a team when it comes to dealing with the injury as just last week he went in for his final corrective surgery, so in 9 to 15 months, we should be back to our regularly scheduled program.
To the point though, when he proposed, he presented me with a gorgeous half carat emerald cut solitaire, I adore it! Always have! We got married rather quickly, he proposed, rather badly on V-day, but I accepted anyway since he was nervous and we were married on the 25th of April, so when ring shopping happened for the bands we had two factors to deal with….time and budget. Hubby’s got HUGE fingers, size 14…so the only thing they had in stock that could be sized was a rather thick white gold band, Hubby loved it, we had it sized and he’s never taken it off since, the problem…? Budget wise that thing ate up almost 2/3 of the ring budget since it weighs in at a staggering 2.5 ounces of solid gold…ouch! So that left me to contend with whatever money we had left and something that would work, I selected a very simple channel set eternity band with pricess cut diamonds….and it’s all lovely and simple, I’ve treasured them both always.
So…before we go in for this surgery, he’s trying to pull that hood ornament of a wedding band off his hand…it took a while, and some soap…but we managed, he hands it to me and says, “When this is all over, we’re going shopping.” I was confused and asked. “For what?” he taps my wedding set and smiles, “I think your due for an upgrade”…I got so excited! I love my wedding rings, but I also love jewelry, and he knows that!
I know we’re a long ways out, but that doesn’t mean I can’t look, and since we’ve been married I really like the statement that his large thick band makes, I would like to exchange the basic solitaire setting of my engagement ring for something thick like Hubby has and keep the wedding band, maybe buy another to go on the other side….that way we match. I’m excited, so I started looking at settings, today I showed him a few and he got a little sulky with me…asking what’s wrong with the setting I have? And braying that he was going to get me another one….I’m slightly confused here…it’s a REALLY basic setting, just a white gold solitaire and I do love it…but what’s wrong with wanting something new? It’s been five years….might I have stumbled into some territory where he can be crabby or possessive of something so simple…and I will add that this was HIS idea, so I’m a little flummoxed at this point, anyone been here before?
