@KatieJean: We got mine appriased for insurance.

Make sure you are going to an independent jewlery appraiser and make sure they know you are getting the ring appraised for insurance replacement value.

We got our insurance through a rider on our existing renter’s insurance. Our renter’s insurance had some jewlery coverage, but not enough to cover my ring. So we added coverage for an individual item as well.

Darling Husband took care of most of it, but I think he just had to send them the independent appraisal and maybe the GIA certificate as well.

Mine has been appraised (b/c it was custom designed by FH and a diamond jeweler). It was appraised at 37K so we decided not to have it insured at all b/c it would be almost $200/month! by the time we paid for a few yrs, we could buy a new ring. So I try to be SUPER careful!

@justmoi22:  Wow $200 a month? Have you checked with Jeweler’s Mutual? My amount was comparable to yours but I only pay $180 a year.

@justmoi22:  I would double check your quote and shop around.  A quick quote through Jeweler’s Mutual (my broker recommended them) for my zipcode with your $37k appraised value and a $1,000 deductible was only $650 per year.  Might be worth it for only $55 a month…
