We gave our rings to our Pastor and just put fake rings on the pillows of our ring bearers.  I found a packet of fake rings at Hobby Lobby.

Our church doesn’t allow the ring bearer to have the actual rings.  Our deacon will already have them.  We’ll have 2 ring bearers and I think they’ll just walk down the aisle with ring pillows – perhaps with fake rings tied on.

I like the idea about the fake rings on the pillow! Hadn’t though about that one. Especially becasue my ring bearer will be 2 at the time!

You could have someone hand him the real rings just before he walks down the aisle. He won’t have them very long and the wedding party can just keep an eye on him for the little bit of time that he will have them. I don’t think that 8 is an irresponsible age for this task.

We’re having our ring bearer carry the real rings. He is taking his job so seriously (he asked his mom to draw a picture of a hand, so he could practice putting the rings on our fingers lol so we had to tell him he doesn’t have to do that, just bring us the rings!) and he would be really upset if afterwards we told him/he found out they were fake.

They will be securely tied onto the ring bearer pillow, so I think it will be fine.

We’re having two (female) 8-year-old ringbearers, and they will get the real rings to walk with.  I think they’re definitely old enough at that point to walk down an aisle without losing some rings.

To a degree it depends on the child, but in most cases I think it would be fine to use real rings. If you ring bearer is like 3 years old and is liable to untie the rings and eat them, obviously do not give him the rings. But an 8-year-old could certainly handle carrying two rings tied to a pillow for a few minutes across 50 feet!

Or, you could be like me and forget to bring the ring bearer a pillow or the rings, and he just walks down the aisle looking cute! (The best man had the rings.)

Also, did you know you can add a poll to your question? This would be a great question for a poll of whether you used real or fake rings (or no rings….lol). To do it, click to edit your original post and then you should see the option on the edit page.

Osakagrl – I think it’s just a nice way to incorporate children who are important to you in the wedding.  As I said, my church doesn’t even allow them to carry the rings and I’m sure they’ve had plenty of “ring” bearers in their 50+ years existance as a parish.
